Happy César Chávez Day From FRIDA

26 Mar

In case you haven’t noticed, at FRIDA we love celebrating legendary icons. Heck, that’s how we got our name! And this week, we thought it would be nice to celebrate a March holiday that sometimes slips under the radar. That’s right, we’re talking about César Chávez Day!

César Chávez literally changed the cultural landscape back in the 60’s and 70’s and, since 1995, California has designated March 31 in his honor. Well we thought we could honor him too, by delving a bit into his legacy (and his favorite dishes).

Did you know that César’s favorite food was homemade spicy burritos? We can’t blame him one bit, a freshly prepared burrito is delicious and we’ve got one on our menu that we’re very proud of. The Burrito Campechano has beef sirloin, rice, beans, queso fresco, and spicy red sauce topped on a soft tortilla. If César was still with us today, we’d proudly give him a lifetime supply!

Chávez’ right-hand woman, Dolores Huerta, continues to keep his message alive and we’ve got plenty of dishes to honor her as well. Huerta happens to be a proud vegetarian (as many of our FRIDA customers are), so this week we’re dedicating our Resplandor de Mango in her honor! Perhaps with some veggie-friendly Guacamole and chips?

And for all of you who are enjoying Monday April 1 as your designated CCD “off day,” we welcome you to drop by our FRIDA Brunch in Glendale. We’ll have all of favorite fixin’s on display for one special price.

Come on down and enjoy this Mexican-inspired holiday with great tasting Mexican cuisine!
