Celebrate Cinco De Mayo With FRIDA

4 May

Feliz Mayo FRIDA friends!

Summer is almost here and one way we like to kick off the new season is with a daylong Cinco De Mayo celebration! Every year our restaurants bring in great crowds for this traditional Mexican holiday.

With Happy Hour cocktails and delicious appetizers, we open up the bar to partygoers from all over LA. At Westwood, Cinco has become a major college hotspot (because don’t forget, we offer UCLA ID discounts). It’s also a time to crank up the sound system for classic Mexican singalongs and HDTV specials. Plus, Westwood has become a great place for the Santa Monica after work crowd. We welcome large parties and have plenty of booths for “family style” entrees.

In Beverly Hills, we’re highlighting more of a slower-paced dining experience. Here, you can enjoy a Cinco de Mayo “date night” or a casual evening with friends. Our wait staff will give you plenty of choices if you’re looking for a hearty traditional meal. Options like Mole Poblano, Cochinita Pibil or Arrachera Nortena will offer a fantastic sampling of the flavors of Mexico.

And let’s not forget the true meaning behind Cinco De Mayo. It recognizes an important event in the Mexico’s history (specifically its victory against the French in the Battle of Puebla). 2015 marks the 153rd anniversary of that day and, as you’re well aware, America has gone on to embrace it with parades, festivals and lively parties. We would love for you to celebrate May 5th with us and to raise a glass for the start of a beautiful season!

Host Your Graduation Party At FRIDA!

28 May

To be honest, summer may be our favorite time of the year. The warm weather calls for cool Margaritas, international tourists are always dropping by and we get to host amazing fiestas for all the recent LA graduates! That’s right, FRIDA Graduation Parties have now become a SoCal staple (particularly at our Westwood location).

It doesn’t matter if you’re a proud USC alum, an LMU grad or you’re walking in a few weeks for UCLA. FRIDA has hosted parties for everyone and we love doing it! For starters, our Westwood patio offers some great ambiance for large groups who want to enjoy the westside sun. Over in Beverly Hills, we’ve been known to rent out the entire dining room for students and their families. Or there’s plenty of nights we host intimate evenings with just Mom & Dad. We can cater to every situation and we’ll make sure the “Class of 2013” gets a proper tribute.

And keep in mind, FRIDA caters too. So if you prefer to host your graduation party at home or at a banquet hall, you can still enjoy all of our delicious taco and ceviche platters. And if you want to go big, that’s fine too. We can coordinate mariachi bands, special desserts or an open bar for those who want to take advantage of the Westwood dance floor.

We all know that Mexican food is an essential part of every SoCal graduation party. And if you want delicious carne plates, juicy pescado, world-famous molcajete and the best Margaritas in town, you know who to call! Let FRIDA be your go-to party planners. Just reach out to our Beverly Hills or Westwood locations, give us your details, then let us take care of the rest.

And all you Bruins, don’t forget to ask about the FRIDA Westwood discounts.

Felicidades Class of 2013!

FRIDA’s Final UNAM-LA Event Happens This Friday!

24 Sep

Hola FRIDA fans….

Have you been keeping up with our UNAM-LA events? Actually, we’ve been thrilled with the turnouts we’ve gotten these past few months. And everyone looking to learn more about the Latin American political system has NOT been disappointed. Luminaries like Leonardo Curzio and Francisco Abundis Luna offered a ton of insight into the electoral process. And now, you have the chance to sit in on one more historic event.

This Friday (September 28), we’re proud to co-host UNAM-LA’s final lecture on the Mexican election. And this may be the most excited one yet! We’ve assembled the Magistrates of the Superior Hall of the Electoral Court for a fascinating discussion about “What Happens Next” with Mexico. Manuel Gonzalez Oropeza, Salvador Nava Gomar and Constancio Carrasco Daza will be participating and sharing their insights on new Commander-in-Chief Enrique Peña Nieto. And for the first time, we’ll be hearing things from a strictly judicial perspective (which should definitely be of interest to all you Legal Eagles).

As always, the admission is free and we’ll be providing plenty of yummy FRIDA treats. But beyond that, we want you to mingle and learn from some of the most interesting people in Latin American politics.

Click here for more info and directions to the Mexican Consulate. The discussion begins Friday at 6pm sharp!

FRIDA’s Restaurants Partner Up For ‘The Taste’

6 Aug

Have you made your Labor Day plans yet? Well cancel them immediately because we want to see you at the Paramount Lot September 1-3 for the 2nd annual L.A. Times TASTE Event! A true “feast” for the eyes and salivary glands, THE TASTE promises to deliver every type of culinary creation possible…and a ton of goodies from the FRIDA kitchen.

Joining with our buddies from the TASTE OF MEXICO (La Monarca, Guelaguetza and La Casita Mexicana), the FRIDA fam will be front and center for all three days of the event. Expect to see items from our CASA AZUL and FRIDA TACOS menus, as well as some “special” surprises (wink, wink). We’ll also be hanging with legendary foodie Jonathan Gold for Saturday’s “Flavors of L.A.” event.

And keep in mind, THE TASTE encompasses a lot more than appetizer samplers. This massive event hosts reps from 40 of So Cal’s top restaurants and has daily happenings like “Cocktail Confidential” and “Field To Fork.” There will also be tons of celebrity chefs in the house, including our very own Vicente Del Rio! So if you’ve got questions about how to cook up a homemade FRIDA quesadilla, don’t be afraid to ask.

Truth be told, we are absolutely thrilled to be part of this historic event and would love for you to join us. And best of all, it’s a only a small hint of things to come. That’s right, this November the TASTE OF MEXICO is coming back in a major way. But before all that goes down, bring your appetite to Paramount Studios on Labor Day weekend. You won’t regret it!

Celebrate The Summer Games At FRIDA!

22 Jul

Calling all sports fans! Now that we’re in a bit of a football lull and the Europe Cup has come and gone, we’re focusing our attention toward the 2012 Summer Games. Oh yes, there will be quite a lot to cheer about (no matter which country you support) and we’d love for you to show your Olympic spirit at FRIDA!

Starting this Friday, we’ll be broadcasting all of your favorite events at both of our restaurants. From the massive opening ceremony, to the hurdles and shot puts, to that final closing concert from The Spice Girls. It’s all going up on the HD FRIDA screen.

Even though things may be on the different time zones, you can bet that plenty of events will fall into the FRIDA Happy Hour sweet spot (with HH running all afternoon, how could they not?) And let’s be honest, table tennis and diving competitions are a lot more fun to watch with a margarita in your hand.

Plus, we’ll be serving all kinds of Olympic-themed dishes to keep things festive. Looking forward to the weightlifting competition? Order up a Burrito FRIDA and you’ll be doing a little weight lifting of your own! It’s heavy alright and stuffed with beef, beans, rice, queso, lettuce and sour cream.

How about synchronized swimming? If you want to bring down a friend, we highly recommend our “synchronized” taco tasting platter. You can also cheer on the silver medal winners with sips from our delicious selections of silver tequilas.

And all you gymnastics fans can work on balance with a Molcajete order. Can you cram this delicious guacamole appetizer in your mouth without losing a single drop? It’s easier said than done!

FRIDA isn’t just a great place to watch the Olympics, it’s a great place to enhance your Olympic experience. And we’ll have plenty of other fans to mingle with too! So throw on your favorite jersey and come down before the fanfare starts.

FRIDA Partners With UNAM-LA For Important Political Summit

15 Jun

In case you were unaware, Obama and Romney aren’t the only notable politicians running in 2012. This year also marks a very important election in Mexico. And no matter who you pledge your support to (right now there are four candidates), it’s always important to stay educated. That’s why we’re proud to partner with UNAM-LA as co-sponsors for a series of important discussions.

Taking place at the Mexican General Consulate in downtown L.A., the Mexico 2012 Electoral Observatory features an amazing array of speakers delivering their take on voting trends, the electoral process and the future of Mexico. So far, noted scholars like Lorenzo Cordoba Vianello and Francisco Guerrero Aguirre have lent their opinions and there are many more notables to come.

On Monday June 18, Francisco Abundis Luna and Jorge Buendia Laredo will be holding an in-depth analysis of the country’s voting trends. Their lecture will begin at 6pm and promises to make for a VERY informative evening.

On August 10, Leonardo Curzio and Ciro Murayama will discuss the outcome of the election and open the floor to political discussions. A similar presidential recap will take place on September 28, with speakers Constancio Carrasco Daza, Salvador Nava Gomar and Manuel Gonzalez Oropeza.

These are all dates that we highly recommend adding to your calendars or you can print out the flyer we’ve attached to the blog. Admission to the UNAM events are completely free and, as co-sponsors, you can bet we’ll providing plenty of FRIDA appetizers and refreshments.

We’d love to see you there!

Happy Birthday FRIDA Beverly Hills!

30 Apr

It’s amazing how fast time flies. It seems like just yesterday we were opening the doors to our FRIDA Beverly Hills restaurant. And now 10 years later, we’re still flourishing and welcoming in Mexican Cuisine lovers from all across L.A.!

But of course, there’s a lot more to FRIDA than great tasting entrees. We like to create an “experience” at our restaurants and an ambiance that’s fun, lively and always entertaining. Case in point, the decorative murals at 236 South Beverly Drive. Back in November 2010, we commissioned artist Candida Peña to completely remodel our interiors, adding blue and metallic colors that perfectly encapsulate the “Casa Azul” of our namesake.

We’ve also added all kinds of new menu items throughout the years, making sure our guests experience the greatest delicacies that Mexico has to offer. But while change is obviously a good thing, so is a bit of nostalgia.

We love being the same little restaurant you remember from 2002. In the past decade, we’ve seen hundreds of regulars drop by for dinner with friends, snacks on the patio, late night coffees, or giant fiestas with the fam. And we love the fact that we’re still going strong on the one-and-only Beverly Blvd (believe us, we’ve seen A LOT of eateries come and go).

So take solace in knowing that FRIDA will be around for a long time to come. And we are going to continue to work hard to keep your business and deliver the tastiest Mexican treats in So Cal!
